How to Price Products When Costs Keep Changing in Nigeria

A short way to reprice in Nigeria when supplier costs, nylon, and delivery move, without guessing a new selling price.

Supplier prices in Nigeria do not wait for your next restock plan. A carton that worked last month can wipe the margin on the same selling price this month.

If you keep the old price because customers already know it, you are paying them to buy from you.

Quick answer

Reprice from the new cost, not from the old selling price. Add packaging, a share of delivery if you absorb it, and your margin. Then round to a price people can pay easily.

Do this when the cost changes

1. Write the new unit cost

If a carton is ₦52,000 and it holds 20 pieces, each piece costs ₦2,600. Use that number, not the price you paid in March.

2. Add the small costs

Nylon, box, label, and the part of delivery you pay yourself. If those add ₦400, your cost is ₦3,000, not ₦2,600.

3. Add margin before you look at competitors

If you want ₦1,500 on that piece, the price is ₦4,500 before you round. Do not start from “people are selling at ₦4,000” and hope the cost still fits.

4. Round in naira people expect

₦4,500 or ₦5,000 is easier to send than ₦4,730. Rounding up is fine. Rounding below your cost-plus-margin is not.

5. Update the price everywhere the same day

WhatsApp status, Instagram highlight, and your storefront should match. Two prices create arguments and undercharging.

What to avoid

  • waiting until the old stock finishes before you reprice new stock
  • giving the old price to “regular customers” on every order
  • running a discount on an item you have not repriced
