How to Close Your Sales Day in Nigeria

A short end-of-day routine for Nigerian shops so you know what you sold, what you were paid, and what is still owed.

A busy day is not the same as a profitable day.

If you close the shop and only remember that “sales moved,” you cannot tell what was paid, what is still owed, or what needs restocking tomorrow.

Quick answer

Before you leave, write down what you sold, how it was paid, what is still unpaid, and what is low in stock. It should take about 15 minutes.

The close, in order

1. List today’s sales

Walk-in, WhatsApp, and Instagram are one list. If a sale is not written down, it did not happen for your records.

2. Split how you were paid

  • cash in hand
  • transfer already received
  • card or online payment
  • still unpaid, including pay on delivery that has not returned

Cash in the drawer and alerts on your phone should match this split. If they do not, find the gap before you go home.

3. Separate sales from profit

Today’s transfer total is not profit. Subtract what the goods cost you, plus delivery you paid yourself. What is left is closer to the truth.

4. Note what is low

If a product sold out or is close, write the restock item now. Tomorrow-you will not remember which shelf was empty.

5. Note who still owes you

Name, amount, and what they bought. Unpaid orders should not live only in a chat you will scroll past.

What to avoid

  • mixing personal withdrawals with shop cash before you count
  • waiting until Sunday to reconstruct the week from memory
  • treating every alert as a completed sale
